The snake oil salesmen of a century ago have evolved. You can buy health, happiness, even beautiful women by the hoppy bottle. But was that ever the most curative element of a carnival? The sideshow freaks have mostly evolved too. Celebrity, especially corrupt celebrity, celebrity that has the same or worse failures that us rubes, has its own television networks.
